ABOUT UNICA - INTERGENERATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ALMADA

The Intergenerational University of the Municipality of Almada, known as ÚNICA, is located in Charneca de Caparica e Sobreda, the largest parish with the highest population growth in the municipality. Over the last 12 years, it has been a reference point in the educational and social response to the community. ÚNICA is part of the Non-Profit Association - In Actu Vitae, whose main mission is to include all age groups in civil society, regardless of their socioeconomic context.

 

Lifelong education and the fight against social isolation are fundamental pillars of our daily work. Furthermore, we actively seek to combat illiteracy and digital illiteracy, as we recognize the significant impact of these factors on social inclusion.

 

Our goal is to offer quality education at an affordable cost, aiming for effective inclusion and integration of the community into civil society, regardless of socioeconomic conditions. Through a wide range of activities, such as daily classes, workshops, gatherings, lectures and study visits, we promote active aging, lifelong education, curricular enrichment, social integration and interaction between different generations. We have around 40 subjects, more than 30 teachers and 200 students, and we work in partnership with several collaborators, following a network approach and sharing services.

 

The Almada City Council and the Charneca de Caparica e Sobreda Parish Council are our main partners, and most of our activities are carried out in facilities provided by the Municipality.
